JPJ Issues Recall for Over 8,000 Vehicles from Kia, Yamaha, and Mercedes-Benz

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced a recall affecting a total of 8,322 vehicles across several brands, including Kia, Yamaha, and Mercedes-Benz, due to identified safety risks.

According to JPJ Director-General Dato’ Aedy Fadly Ramli, the largest group impacted includes 5,123 units of the Kia Rio UB, manufactured between 2010 and 2017. These vehicles are being recalled due to a potential short circuit risk involving the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), which could lead to fire hazards.

In addition, Yamaha motorcycles are also affected. Specifically:

  • 1,649 units of the Yamaha MT-09
  • 1,369 units of the Tracer 9 GT
Both models, produced from November 2021 to February 2025, are being recalled due to malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensors (TPS).

Furthermore, 149 units of the Yamaha Tenere 700, manufactured between 2023 and 2024, are being recalled over clutch system issues that may affect riding performance and safety.

Mercedes-Benz is also included in the notice, with 32 vehicles from models such as the S 580 e, GLC 300 4MATIC, EQS 500, AMG SL 43, EQE 53, and EQS 53 (from 2023 to 2025) affected due to issues with the fuse box.

Dato’ Aedy Fadly emphasized that the recall measures are being taken seriously to prevent accidents caused by mechanical or electrical failures. Affected vehicle owners will be contacted by their respective manufacturers to arrange inspections and corrective action.

“All vehicle owners are encouraged to respond promptly and make arrangements with authorised service centres for inspection,” he said.

He further assured that all repairs or replacements will be carried out free of charge and under manufacturer responsibility. JPJ will continue to monitor the process to ensure that all necessary safety measures are properly implemented.
