Touch ’n Go Introduces Enhanced RFID Lane with 99.98% Detection Accuracy, Bringing Malaysia One Step Closer to Barrier-Free Tolling

KUALA LUMPUR – Touch ‘n Go has officially introduced its first Enhanced RFID lane at the AKLEH Dato Keramat Toll Plaza, marking another significant milestone in Malaysia’s journey towards a future Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) tolling system.

Powered by the company’s locally developed Titan Flow Technology, the new lane is designed to deliver faster, smoother and more reliable toll transactions while remaining fully compatible with all existing Touch ‘n Go RFID tags currently used by Malaysian motorists.

Unlike conventional RFID lanes, the Enhanced RFID lane integrates multiple intelligent technologies including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and LiDAR to validate every vehicle with exceptional precision.

A Smarter Tolling Experience for Malaysian Drivers

One of the biggest improvements introduced through the Enhanced RFID lane is its ability to process vehicles travelling at speeds exceeding 50 km/h, allowing motorists to maintain better traffic flow without excessive braking before reaching the toll plaza.

According to Touch ‘n Go, this technology can improve lane traffic flow by up to 30%, helping reduce congestion and clear queues more efficiently during peak travel periods.

Drivers can easily identify these upgraded lanes through a distinctive gold star symbol displayed on the RFID lane signage at participating toll plazas.

Titan Flow Technology Achieves 99.98% Detection Accuracy

At the heart of the Enhanced RFID lane is Touch ‘n Go’s proprietary Titan Flow Technology, developed specifically for Malaysian driving conditions, unpredictable tropical weather and the growing demand for secure digital toll payments.

Instead of relying on a single detection method, Titan Flow combines RFID as the primary identification system with ANPR cameras, AI, Machine Learning and LiDAR to verify every vehicle through multiple layers of validation.

This integrated approach enables the platform to achieve a remarkable 99.98% vehicle detection accuracy under real-world operating conditions.

The technology has already undergone an extensive 20-month proof-of-concept deployment at the LKSA Alam Impian toll plaza, successfully processing over 10.7 million vehicles across five different vehicle classes.

Existing RFID Tags Continue to Work

One of the most practical advantages for motorists is that no new RFID tag is required.

Touch ‘n Go confirmed that all existing RFID stickers, including the earliest generation introduced in 2018, remain fully compatible with the Enhanced RFID lanes.

This allows millions of users to immediately benefit from the upgraded system without replacing their current tags or making any changes to their existing accounts.

Today, the Touch ‘n Go ecosystem supports more than 4.7 million registered RFID motorists, processes approximately 1.9 billion expressway transactions annually, and serves over 27 million verified Touch ‘n Go eWallet users.

Preparing Malaysia for Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF)

The Enhanced RFID lane is more than just a faster toll lane, it serves as an important stepping stone towards Malaysia’s future Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) tolling system.

Touch ‘n Go plans to deploy 10 Enhanced RFID lanes across selected highways before the end of the year.

Importantly, the hardware installed today has been designed to be fully reusable when Malaysia eventually transitions to MLFF, reducing future infrastructure costs and improving long-term sustainability.

While the technology is ready, wider RFID adoption among motorists remains essential before nationwide MLFF implementation can become a reality.

SOS Balance Continues to Improve Everyday Convenience

Complementing the Enhanced RFID experience is Touch ‘n Go eWallet’s SOS Balance feature, which helps motorists avoid getting stranded at toll plazas due to insufficient balance.

The temporary micro-credit facility has already enabled more than 37 million uninterrupted journeys, with thousands of motorists using the feature daily before topping up their eWallet balance afterwards.

This additional layer of convenience further supports Touch ‘n Go’s objective of delivering seamless toll payments with minimal interruption.

Moving Towards Invisible Toll Payments

Speaking during the technology showcase, Touch ‘n Go CEO Praba Sangarajoo emphasised that the company’s long-term vision is to make toll payments virtually invisible to motorists.

Rather than forcing drivers to think about payment methods or transaction success, the goal is to ensure every journey remains effortless, secure and uninterrupted through intelligent technology working quietly in the background.

With the successful rollout of the Enhanced RFID lane at AKLEH and additional deployments planned this year, Malaysia is taking another meaningful step towards a smarter, more connected and barrier-free highway experience.
