BMW’s Neue Klasse Era Begins: All-New BMW iX3 Debuts in ASEAN via Thailand

The dawn of a new electric era has officially begun for BMW in Southeast Asia, with the all-new second-generation BMW iX3 making its ASEAN debut in Thailand. As the first production model built on BMW’s groundbreaking Neue Klasse platform, the iX3 represents far more than just a generational update, it is a complete reinvention of the brand’s design, technology, and driving philosophy.
Unveiled in right-hand-drive form at the Bangkok International Motor Show 2026, Thailand becomes the first regional market to welcome BMW’s next-generation EV, with the iX3 50 xDrive M Sport priced at THB 3.599 million (approximately RM435k).
A Bold Reset in Design Philosophy

The new iX3 introduces a striking design shift that signals a clear departure from recent BMW styling cues. Gone are the oversized kidney grilles, replaced instead by slimmer, vertically oriented elements that subtly pay homage to the iconic BMW 2000.
This “retro-futuristic” approach is complemented by:
- Integrated headlight and grille design creating a seamless “infinity” effect
- Clean, sculpted surfaces with minimal visual clutter
- Aerodynamic efficiency with a drag coefficient of just 0.24 Cd
The result is a design language that feels both progressive and restrained, setting the tone for all future Neue Klasse models.
A Cabin That Redefines Digital Interaction
Inside, BMW introduces a completely reimagined cockpit experience, one that feels closer to a digital command centre than a traditional car interior.
At the heart of it is the BMW Panoramic Vision, a full-width head-up display projected across the base of the windscreen, ensuring all occupants can access key driving information.

Supporting this futuristic interface are:
- A 17.9-inch central display with a unique slanted design
- Optional 3D head-up display for immersive driver-focused visuals
- A redesigned M Sport steering wheel with haptic touch controls
Powering the entire ecosystem is BMW’s new “Super-Brains” architecture, a network of high-performance computers delivering up to 20 times more processing power than current systems.

Performance Meets Next-Gen Electrification
Underneath its futuristic design lies a thoroughly advanced electric drivetrain.
The iX3 50 xDrive features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, producing:
- 469 hp (345 kW)
- 645 Nm of torque
- 0–100 km/h in 4.9 seconds
- Top speed of 210 km/h
Built on a cutting-edge 800V electrical architecture, the iX3 delivers impressive charging capabilities:
- Up to 400 kW DC fast charging
- 10–80% recharge in just 21 minutes
- Up to 805 km WLTP range

This combination positions the iX3 as one of the most technologically advanced EVs in its segment.
Intelligent Driving, Reinvented
Beyond raw performance, BMW places strong emphasis on intelligent driving systems.
Key highlights include:
- Motorway Assistant for hands-free highway driving
- Symbiotic Drive for seamless driver-system interaction
- The “Heart of Joy” control unit, processing vehicle dynamics 10x faster
Together, these systems aim to deliver what BMW continues to promise, sheer driving pleasure, now redefined for the electric age.
What About Malaysia?
While Thailand takes the lead, Malaysia is next in line. BMW has confirmed that both markets will receive the iX3 Long Wheelbase (LWB) variant, expected to debut globally at the Beijing Auto Show 2026.
Local arrival? Likely late 2026 to early 2027.

A Defining Moment for BMW’s Future
The all-new BMW iX3 is not just another EV, it is the foundation of BMW’s next decade. With its Neue Klasse DNA, advanced computing systems, and next-level charging capabilities, it sets a new benchmark for what the brand envisions moving forward.
Whether you embrace its bold new design or not, one thing is certain, this is the future of BMW.
