BYD Boosts EV Presence in Malaysia with Arrival of BYD Zhengzhou Carrier Vessel

Northport, Port Klang – August 6, 2025
Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) scene just hit another milestone. BYD Zhengzhou, a dedicated roll-on/roll-off (RORO) carrier ship owned by EV giant BYD, made its official arrival at Port Klang, bringing in a new wave of fully-built BYD vehicles ready for Malaysian roads.

This vessel, which can carry up to 7,000 vehicles, marks BYD’s increasing commitment to global expansion and reinforces Malaysia’s importance as a key EV destination in Southeast Asia.

A Regional Logistics Power Move

The BYD Zhengzhou didn’t just stop in Malaysia — it’s part of a broader logistics route across Southeast Asia. Before reaching Port Klang, the vessel made successful deliveries in Indonesia, Singapore, and the Philippines. After its stop in Malaysia, it will continue on to Thailand before heading back to China.

From the press photos shared by BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors, several key models were spotted onboard. The BYD M6 and Denza D9 dominated the shipment, while additional visuals from BYD Malaysia’s official Facebook page revealed models such as the Sealion 7 and Atto 2, indicating a diverse lineup arriving in the country.

Strengthening Malaysia’s EV Ecosystem

The collaboration between BYD Malaysia and Sime Motors, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in the country, is picking up speed. According to Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors Southeast Asia, the new shipping route is a game-changer:

“We’re entering a new phase of growth with this delivery. It ensures faster lead times, greater reliability, and a stronger value chain that benefits everyone — especially our customers in Malaysia,” he said.

With over 35 BYD outlets already operating and a target of 60 by the end of 2026, the local infrastructure is scaling rapidly to meet growing consumer interest in electric vehicles.

Innovation in Motion

The BYD Zhengzhou uses the RORO method, allowing vehicles to be driven on and off the vessel efficiently. This technique significantly reduces time and cost compared to traditional container shipping and gives BYD a strategic edge in controlling its logistics.

Eagle Zhao, Managing Director of BYD Malaysia, emphasized the significance of this capability:

“Operating our own fleet enhances delivery reliability and supports our long-term plans for expansion in Malaysia. This is more than logistics — it’s part of our mission to make sustainable mobility accessible and efficient.”

Malaysia: A Strategic EV Gateway

The arrival of the BYD Zhengzhou is more than a delivery; it’s a clear signal of Malaysia’s rising profile in the regional EV supply chain. With China leading global EV exports, BYD’s investments in logistics are setting the stage for long-term growth across Asia.

As EV adoption accelerates, BYD and Sime Motors are committed to shaping a robust ecosystem — from vehicle delivery and retail to after-sales support and consumer education. The road ahead is electric, and Malaysia is right at the heart of the movement.
