2025 Proton X50 Facelift Debuts with Bold Styling, New Engine and All-New Cabin

Proton has officially unveiled the much-anticipated 2025 X50 facelift, and it’s more than just a visual update. This refreshed model receives major upgrades across the board—from its bold new styling to a completely redesigned interior and, most significantly, a new 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine.

Taking center stage is the i-GT 1.5L direct-injection turbo engine, delivering 181 PS and 290 Nm of torque. It’s a clear step up from the previous three-cylinder option, now offering smoother performance and improved fuel efficiency by nearly 5%. Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the X50 now accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds.

On the outside, the SUV adopts the sleeker, more aggressive look of the Geely Binyue L, complete with full-width taillights, redesigned LED headlights, and Proton’s own grille treatment. Higher variants receive larger 18-inch wheels and a distinctive rear spoiler to match the sporty new look.

The inside, however, steals the show. Proton has reimagined the entire cabin with a modern, tech-focused layout. A massive 14.6-inch infotainment display now controls most of the vehicle’s features, including a newly added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Drivers also get an upgraded digital instrument cluster, a new floating centre console with twin phone holders, and improved connectivity through the updated Proton Link 2.0 system.

New convenience features include wireless charging, 360-degree camera with transparent view, remote start, and ambient lighting. The Flagship variant takes things even further with a panoramic sunroof, premium upholstery, and sleek semi-transparent sun visors.

Safety has also been enhanced, with all variants now getting blind spot monitoring, rear collision alert, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Premium and Flagship models benefit from a full ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, auto high beam, and park assist, powered by a new camera and radar system.

Available in five colours including the new Teal Bayou Green, the revamped X50 aims to reset expectations in Malaysia’s competitive B-segment SUV space. With performance, comfort, and technology now more balanced than ever, this facelifted model is positioned to attract both loyal fans and first-time buyers alike.
