Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has officially unveiled the Volkswagen Golf GTI Black Edition ahead of the Malaysia Autoshow, surprising fans by launching several special editions earlier than expected. Among them, the Black Edition stands out as the highlight for enthusiasts, offering a unique aesthetic and added features.
Priced at RM246,490 nett (or RM247,512 on-the-road without insurance) with a standard two-year warranty, the GTI Black Edition also comes with an option for the Volkswagen Assurance Package (VAP). This upgraded package, priced at RM258,990 (RM260,012 OTR), includes a five-year warranty with free servicing, now extended to seven years. Although the model is RM6,000 more expensive than the standard Mk8 GTI, an introductory RM15,000 discount brings the starting price down to RM243,990 (RM245,012 OTR), making it a compelling offer for early buyers.
Aesthetically, the Black Edition lives up to its name with a series of darkened enhancements. The car features 18-inch “Richmond” turbine-style alloy wheels finished in black, complemented by self-righting GTI centre caps and GTI-branded valve caps—accessories previously seen on the Edition 50. Additional touches include “Black” badging on the B-pillars and JPJ-compliant window tint for added privacy and style.
Color options for the Black Edition include Kings Red and Deep Black, expanding the palette beyond the limited white and grey options of the Edition 50.
Inside, the model receives exclusive Black Edition floor mats and is equipped with the Volkswagen Universal Traffic Recorder 2.0, a front and rear dash cam system. This setup features a Sony Starvis night-vision image sensor capable of capturing QHD-quality footage even at high speeds and in low-light conditions. It also supports dual-band 5 GHz WiFi for quicker video downloads.
Practical enhancements include cargo dividers in the boot secured with velcro, and a special Black Edition gift box containing a Volkswagen key holder and a certificate of authenticity.
With a stylish design, added tech, and an attractive launch offer, the Golf GTI Black Edition aims to make a bold statement in Malaysia’s performance hatchback segment.
