2024 Geely Boyue Makes Its Debut in China – Will the Next Proton X70 Take Design Cues from It?

Chinese automaker Geely has been actively expanding its lineup recently, including new variants of the Binyue and Emgrand models, which underpin the Proton X50 and X70 respectively. The company has now officially launched its second-generation Boyue model.
The first-generation Boyue, a predecessor to the popular Proton X70 C-segment crossover SUV, has evolved into this new model. The second-generation Boyue, first revealed last year, has recently been updated for the 2024 model year with a refreshed design featuring sharper, more striking styling and distinctive dot-matrix through-type lights.
Depending on the variant, the Boyue includes several notable features such as a two-tone color scheme, a black aerokit, 19-inch black wheels, and red-painted brake calipers. Despite its bold new look, the dimensions of the second-generation Boyue remain similar to its predecessor, measuring 4,510 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, and with a 2,701 mm wheelbase.

The new model is built on Geely’s GEEA2.0 electronic and electrical architecture, supporting a range of advanced technologies including active driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as active braking, lane-keeping and lane-centering assist, and traffic sign recognition.
Inside, the Boyue features an updated cabin with a 10.25-inch digital LCD instrument panel and a 13.2-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen infotainment system. This system offers a 2K resolution and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip along with the Galaxy 2.0 operating system, providing extensive connectivity through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 4G mobile networks.
Premium features—depending on the variant—include a wireless charging pad, a powered tailgate, and an Infinity premium audio system, which is available exclusively on higher trims.

Under the hood, the second-generation Boyue sports a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, producing 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque, replacing the familiar 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine found in the Proton X70. This engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and offers a WLTC-rated fuel economy of 6.29 litres per 100 km. The powertrain also includes four selectable drive modes: Economy, Comfort, Sports, and Smart.
The new second-generation Geely Boyue is priced starting at approximately US$18,000 in China, which translates to roughly RM84,870.
