MCE Auto Hub Opens in Serendah to Accelerate Malaysia’s Automotive Electronics Industry
Malaysia’s automotive industry has reached another important milestone with the official opening of the MCE Auto Hub in Serendah, Selangor. Developed by MCE Holdings Berhad, the new RM50 million facility represents more than just a manufacturing expansion, it signals the company’s ambition to position Malaysia as a regional leader in advanced automotive electronics and future mobility technologies.
Officially launched by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, the facility is the first phase of a long-term investment plan that could reach RM200 million over the next decade.
A New Era of Automotive Manufacturing
Located within the UMW High Value Manufacturing Park, the Industry 4.0-ready facility has been designed to support the increasing demand for sophisticated automotive electronics used in both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs).
Unlike conventional component manufacturing plants, the MCE Auto Hub features highly controlled clean-room production environments that ensure the precision and quality required for today’s increasingly connected and software-defined vehicles.
As modern vehicles continue integrating more intelligent electronic systems, manufacturers require production facilities capable of meeting global automotive quality standards while maintaining high manufacturing efficiency.
Expanding Malaysia’s Automotive Electronics Capability
The new facility significantly strengthens MCE’s capabilities in designing, engineering and manufacturing advanced automotive electronics.
Products manufactured at the Auto Hub include:
- Smart Cockpit Systems
- Infotainment Systems
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
- Electronic Control Units (ECUs)
- Mechatronic Components
These technologies are increasingly becoming essential in both conventional and electric vehicles as automakers move towards safer, smarter and more connected mobility solutions.
The expansion is expected to more than double MCE’s production capacity while enabling the company to serve customers across Malaysia, ASEAN and international markets, including the United States.
Investing Beyond Manufacturing
For MCE, localisation extends well beyond assembling automotive components.
The company aims to develop more high-value activities such as product design, engineering, research and development, allowing Malaysian talent to participate directly in creating next-generation automotive technologies.
Currently employing approximately 680 employees, including around 90 engineers, MCE continues investing heavily in specialised engineering expertise to support future product development and innovation.
This emphasis on engineering capability reflects Malaysia’s growing competitiveness within the global automotive supply chain.
Supporting Malaysia’s Industrial Transformation
The investment aligns closely with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the National Automotive Policy 2020, both of which encourage manufacturers to move up the value chain through technology adoption, advanced manufacturing and innovation.
Beyond expanding its own operations, MCE is actively collaborating with local semiconductor companies, integrated circuit (IC) design houses and electrical & electronics (E&E) players to strengthen Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem.
These partnerships are expected to increase opportunities for locally developed technologies to be integrated into automotive applications supplied to both domestic and international markets.
Strengthening Malaysia’s Position in Future Mobility
As global vehicles become increasingly software-driven and electronically advanced, automotive electronics are rapidly becoming one of the industry’s highest-growth sectors.
With the launch of the MCE Auto Hub, Malaysia gains another strategic manufacturing asset capable of supporting future mobility technologies while strengthening the country’s position as a regional hub for automotive electronics.
The facility also demonstrates growing confidence in Malaysia’s engineering talent, manufacturing ecosystem and long-term competitiveness within the rapidly evolving global automotive industry.
Final Thoughts
The opening of the MCE Auto Hub represents far more than an expansion of production capacity. It reflects the evolution of Malaysia’s automotive sector towards higher-value manufacturing, stronger engineering capabilities and greater technological innovation.
As investments continue and collaboration across the automotive ecosystem deepens, initiatives like the MCE Auto Hub are expected to play an increasingly important role in shaping the future of Malaysia’s automotive industry.
