PENANG AUTOSHOW 2026 ACHIEVES MAJOR SUCCESS AS MALAYSIA’S FIRST REGIONAL AUTOSHOW; GENERATES RM201.96 MILLION IN POTENTIAL SALES

PENANG, 11 MAY 2026 – The Penang Autoshow 2026 concluded its inaugural edition on a high note, marking a significant milestone as the first regional extension of the Malaysia Autoshow brand. Organized by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute, the four-day showcase attracted an impressive 38,815 visitors and generated approximately RM201.96 million in potential sales, reinforcing the northern region’s growing appetite for automotive innovation and next-generation mobility.

Throughout the showcase, more than 439 vehicle bookings and over 930 test drives were recorded, reflecting strong consumer confidence and increasing market interest in both electrified and advanced mobility solutions. The encouraging response further demonstrated the commercial potential and strategic importance of regional automotive showcases in driving industry growth and consumer engagement across Malaysia.
As a key industry touchpoint, Penang Autoshow 2026 brought together 15 prominent automotive brands and more than 50 exhibitors, featuring the latest advancements in vehicle technology, mobility solutions, aftermarket products, and lifestyle experiences. The event was officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang, Chow Kon Yeow, reflecting the state government’s continued commitment to advancing automotive innovation, future mobility, and regional industry development in the northern corridor.
Beyond the exhibition floor, visitors were also treated to curated car club gatherings, a special Labour Day tribute performance by Malaysian rock icon Dato’ Awie, and a spectacular Tesla light show, creating an engaging atmosphere for enthusiasts and families alike.

A major highlight of the showcase was the focus on upcoming mobility, where attendees were treated to six highly anticipated model previews and launches. Leading the charge was the Jetour T1, a rugged yet urban-friendly SUV now open for booking with an estimated price range of RM143,800 to RM153,800. It was joined by the GWM Tank 300 HEV, the new petrol-hybrid variant of the acclaimed off-roader. Pro-Net also injected fresh excitement into the EV market with the debut of the Proton e.MAS 5 in its new Jade Green signature colour.
The high-performance and luxury segments were equally well-represented, with Hyundai officially opening bookings for both the IONIQ 5 N and the IONIQ 6 N, while providing an exclusive first look at the flagship IONIQ 9 alongside the sleek Denza Z9 GT.
Complementing these debuts, Carsome delivered an insightful presentation on the evolving automotive landscape, highlighting their commitment to trust and transparency in the pre-owned market.

Beyond vehicles, the showcase marked a significant return for Dunlop, re-establishing its Malaysian presence after a decade, with a new product lineup that includes the Blue Response TG, a specialized range engineered specifically for electric vehicles (EVs).
Penang Autoshow was also honoured with an official visit by the Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT) Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Ramli bin Ngah Talib further underscoring the significance of Penang Autoshow 2026 as a strategic platform supporting the growth and transformation of Malaysia’s automotive ecosystem.

The event’s closing ceremony culminated in the announcement of the grand prize winners for the signature giveaway competitions. Seng Siew Lean was named the winner of the “Book a Car, Win a Car” contest, walking away with a Chery Tiggo 7 PHEV CSH. Additionally, the grand lucky draw prize, a JAECOO J5, was won by Siti Rahemah binti Alaw Deen. These giveaways continue to drive significant engagement and excitement among visitors, rewarding the public for their participation in this milestone regional show.
The encouraging response from industry players, consumers, and families throughout the northern region reinforces the importance of expanding quality automotive showcases to regional markets.
