KINETA Strengthens EV Charging Ambitions with ZD Energy Partnership Extension, Unveils Next-Generation Chargers

Kuala Lumpur, 11 June 2026 – Malaysia’s electric vehicle (EV) charging landscape is set for another major boost as KINETA, the EV charging solutions subsidiary of Sime Darby Berhad, officially extends its exclusive distributorship agreement with ZD Energy (Shanghai Zhida Technology Development Co. Ltd.) for another three years.

The agreement, formalised during KLIMS 2026 (Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show 2026), reinforces KINETA’s exclusive rights to distribute ZD Energy’s smart energy and EV charging solutions across Malaysia and Singapore, signalling a stronger commitment to expanding regional EV infrastructure.

A Partnership Built on Proven Success

Since partnering in January 2022, KINETA and ZD Energy have established themselves as key players in Southeast Asia’s growing EV ecosystem. Over the past four years, KINETA has successfully sold more than 14,000 EV chargers while completing over 9,500 charger installations throughout Malaysia.

Its charging solutions are trusted by numerous global automotive brands represented under the Sime Darby Group, including BMW, MINI, BYD, Jaguar Land Rover, Hyundai, Porsche, and Volvo, while also supporting other major EV manufacturers such as Proton e.MAS, Tesla, iCAUR, Zeekr, and GWM.

These achievements demonstrate KINETA’s growing role as one of Malaysia’s leading EV charging infrastructure providers, helping both individual EV owners and commercial customers embrace electric mobility with confidence.

New Charging Technologies Take Centre Stage

Beyond the agreement signing, the ceremony also served as the regional debut of ZD Energy’s latest charging technologies.

The newly introduced product lineup includes:

  • Mini Z
  • Explorer 2 Flex
  • Explorer 2 Pro
  • Battery Integrated DC Charger

Among the four new products, the Battery Integrated DC Charger attracted significant attention for its innovative approach to DC fast charging.

Unlike conventional DC chargers that rely entirely on grid power, this solution integrates battery storage and can be partially powered by solar energy while remaining connected to the electrical grid. According to ZD Energy CEO Dr. Amy Shang, the system can even operate entirely on solar power with sufficient photovoltaic panels, opening new possibilities for fast charging installations in remote locations or areas with limited grid access.

Such technology could significantly improve charging accessibility while supporting cleaner and more sustainable energy deployment across the region.

Supporting Regional Expansion

The renewed partnership also reflects KINETA’s broader regional ambitions.

While maintaining its strong presence in Malaysia, the company is actively expanding into Singapore and continues strengthening collaborations across Hong Kong and China. The exclusive agreement provides a solid foundation for deploying next-generation charging infrastructure while supporting increasing EV adoption throughout the region.

KINETA Managing Director Sunny Lee described the agreement as an important milestone that reinforces the company’s leadership in EV charging solutions and enables faster expansion into neighbouring markets.

Meanwhile, Dr. Amy Shang expressed confidence that the collaboration would combine KINETA’s regional expertise with ZD Energy’s global technological capabilities to deliver smarter, safer and more efficient charging solutions across the Asia-Pacific region.

Powered by Global Expertise

Established in 2010 and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, ZD Energy has grown into China’s largest private EV charger provider. The company currently collaborates with approximately 80% of global automotive brands and has shipped more than two million EV chargers worldwide, highlighting its extensive experience in developing charging infrastructure for both residential and commercial applications.

Although pricing and official Malaysian launch dates for the newly unveiled products have yet to be announced, the latest lineup demonstrates both companies’ commitment to supporting the next phase of EV growth in Southeast Asia.

Looking Ahead

As EV adoption continues accelerating across Malaysia and neighbouring countries, reliable charging infrastructure remains one of the industry’s biggest priorities. The renewed partnership between KINETA and ZD Energy not only strengthens their long-term collaboration but also lays the groundwork for smarter, greener and more accessible charging solutions for consumers and businesses alike.

With advanced charging technologies now entering the regional market, the next chapter of Southeast Asia’s electric mobility journey appears to be charging ahead faster than ever.
