Perodua Teases Its New D66B SUV — Could This Be the All-New Perodua Traz?

Just days after launching its first-ever EV in Malaysia, Perodua is already stirring excitement again — this time with a mysterious new SUV teaser. A short video posted on its social channels shows a shadowy silhouette of a model many believe to be the brand’s upcoming B-segment crossover, currently known by its codename D66B and rumoured name Perodua Traz.
A Shadowy First Look — But Enough to Spark Speculation
The teaser doesn’t reveal much at first glance, but a closer look at the rear quarter silhouette gives away hints that link the model to its Toyota counterpart.
Early rumours point to the D66B being closely based on the Toyota Yaris Cross for the ASEAN market. When comparing the shapes side-by-side, the resemblance is striking — especially in the contour of the rear quarter. That said, Perodua seems to have made subtle design adjustments, similar to how the Alza differs from the Veloz and how the Ativa carries its own unique look despite sharing DNA with the Rocky/Raize.

Design Clues: Similar DNA, But With Perodua Personality
A few noticeable differences set the Perodua model apart from the Toyota version. For instance:
- It appears to omit roof rails
- No shark-fin antenna
- The front-end shape closely resembles the Yaris Cross, particularly where the bonnet meets the grille
A close-up shot in the teaser also reveals:
- A grille mesh pattern similar to the Alza
- The Perodua badge sitting within the grille, lightly touching the upper panel
This positioning differs from the Alza, where the badge sits on plastic trim above the mesh — showing that Perodua is giving this model its own visual identity.

Built on a Proven Platform
Despite the Toyota connection, the Yaris Cross — and presumably the Perodua version — rides on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform. This is the same platform already used for models like the Ativa, Alza, and Toyota Vios.
The expected engine options mirror what’s found in neighbouring markets:
- A 1.5L NA four-cylinder engine (106 hp, 138 Nm) paired with a CVT
- A hybrid version like Thailand’s Yaris Cross Hybrid, combining a 1.5L engine with an electric motor for 111 hp combined output
Given Malaysia’s market direction, a CVT petrol variant seems likely at launch, with hybrid possibilities depending on Perodua’s future roadmap.

Where It Fits in the Lineup
Perodua has confirmed that this new model will be larger than the Ativa, but will not quite reach the size of the Aruz or Alza. This places the upcoming SUV firmly in the B-segment, where it will compete directly with the Proton X50 — Malaysia’s current best-selling B-segment SUV.
With Perodua’s strong reputation for affordability, practicality, and reliability, the D66B could quickly become one of the most talked-about local SUVs once it’s officially revealed.
Final Thoughts: The Countdown Begins
Perodua isn’t giving away much yet, but the teaser alone has generated plenty of buzz. If the D66B truly becomes the Perodua Traz, Malaysians may be getting a stylish new crossover built on a proven platform, sized perfectly for city and family use, and expectedly priced to shake up the market.
More details are expected soon — and if Perodua’s momentum is anything to go by, this could be one of the most important car launches of the year.
