EV Future on Track: PLUS and YGT Collaborate on Next-Gen Charging Hubs

PLUS Malaysia, through its subsidiary Terra PLUS, has officially entered into a joint venture with Yinson GreenTech (YGT), represented by its unit Green EV Charge, to develop and operate integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging and retail hubs along key points of the North-South Expressway (NSE).
This partnership builds upon a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in June 2023, where both parties expressed their commitment to enhance EV infrastructure along the highway. The joint venture agreement was recently formalised by PLUS Managing Director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaafar and YGT Chief Executive Officer Lim Chern Yuan.
The first hub under this collaboration will be established at the Seremban Rest and Service Area (RSA) southbound. However, the project’s completion has been rescheduled from the initial 2024 timeline to 2027.
Under the terms of the JV, PLUS will take the lead in managing and developing the retail and food & beverage (F&B) elements of the hub, while YGT will oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of the EV chargers. The initiative aims to offer a seamless and elevated stopover experience by integrating high-performance charging with vibrant retail and dining offerings.
While the latest statement did not include specific technical details, YGT previously shared during the 2023 MoU signing that each hub would feature eight charging bays equipped with Level 3 DC fast chargers delivering up to 350 kW. This would enable compatible EVs to charge in as little as 20 minutes. It remains unclear whether any updates have been made to this initial design.
A second hub was also mentioned during the initial announcement, planned for the Ayer Keroh RSA (northbound) with a projected launch in 2025. However, in light of the revised timeline for the Seremban hub, the status of the Ayer Keroh development remains uncertain.
This collaboration marks a significant step forward in strengthening Malaysia’s EV ecosystem and supporting the nation’s transition to sustainable mobility.
