Volvo EX30 launched in Malaysia: The brand’s smallest and most affordable electric vehicle is now available, starting at RM188,888.
Volvo Car Malaysia has officially introduced the Volvo EX30, its smallest and fastest electric vehicle to date. As the brand’s entry-level fully electric SUV, the EX30 is also the most affordable, designed to compete with premium compact SUVs like the Smart #1 and the upcoming Zeekr X.
The Volvo EX30 is available in three variants with the following official pricing in Malaysia:
- Volvo EX30 Plus (Single-motor) – RM188,888
- Volvo EX30 Ultra (Single-motor) – RM208,888
- Volvo EX30 Ultra Twin Performance (Dual-motor) – RM228,888
The EX30 comes in five colors: Cloud Blue, Moss Yellow, Crystal White, Vapour Grey, and Onyx Black. All variants feature an Indigo interior with Textile and Nordico upholstery, complemented by Denim decor panels and blue air vent accents.
The Volvo EX30 offers a 5-year vehicle warranty, an 8-year battery warranty, a 5-year inclusive service package, roadside assistance, and 5 years of complimentary Google services and data connectivity. Currently, the EX30 will be available as a fully imported CBU model, with plans for local CKD assembly to begin in 2025.
Volvo Car Malaysia provides two equipment levels for the single-motor variant of the EX30. The EX30 Ultra, available in both Single and Twin-motor configurations, includes all the premium features. In contrast, the Plus model lacks Park Pilot Assist, a 360-degree camera system, powered front seats, and a panoramic sunroof, though it does come with a rear-view camera. As part of its introductory offer, Volvo Car Financial Services is providing a step-up financing program starting at RM1,588 per month, with a variable financing rate of 1.88% for the first 100 orders. Malaysian customers can now place their EX30 orders through Volvo Malaysia’s online store.
The Volvo EX30 is constructed on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform designed specifically for electric vehicles, sharing some features with the Smart #1 and Zeekr X. In terms of dimensions, it is smaller than the Volvo XC40, with a wheelbase of 2650mm (compared to the XC40’s 2702mm). The EX30 measures 1550mm in height, 1838mm in width, and 4233mm in length (while the XC40 stands at 1652mm tall, 1873mm wide, and 4440mm long).
The Volvo EX30 in Malaysia is available in three variants, all featuring a larger 69kWh NMC battery that provides up to 476km of range. Standard across the range are 19″ 5-spoke alloy wheels. The Plus and Ultra variants come with a single motor driving the rear wheels, delivering 200kW (268hp) and 343Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100km/h time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 180km/h.
The range-topping Ultra Twin Performance model of the EX30 delivers a combined output of 315kW (422hp) and 543Nm of torque. This all-wheel-drive variant accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds, also limited to a top speed of 180km/h. With the additional front motor, the range is slightly lower at up to 450km, which still surpasses the Smart #1 Brabus by 50km.
The Volvo EX30 features a Tesla-inspired minimalistic interior and is claimed to have the lowest carbon footprint in Volvo’s lineup, utilizing sustainable and naturally sourced materials. The dashboard includes a large 12.3″ tablet-like display that controls most vehicle functions. While there is no instrument cluster or heads-up display (HUD), physical controls like signal indicator stalks and the gear selector remain on the steering column. The infotainment system is powered by Google and supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Instead of traditional door-mounted speakers, a single-piece Harman Kardon Premium soundbar is positioned above the dashboard, freeing up door space for storing water bottles and other items.
Despite its compact size, the EX30 offers a variety of clever storage compartments and a flat floor, thanks to its dedicated EV platform. The boot has a capacity of 315L, expandable to 904L with the rear seats folded and underfloor storage utilized. Additionally, the compact SUV includes a small frunk under the bonnet for extra storage.
The Volvo EX30 supports DC fast charging up to 175kW, enabling a charge from 10-80% in under 30 minutes. For AC charging, all variants come equipped with an 11kW onboard charger, allowing for a complete charge from 0-100% in about 8 hours according to the official specifications for Malaysia.
