JPJ Launches Enhanced White European-Style License Plates with New Features for EVs and ZEVs
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has introduced the JPJePlate, a specialized license plate for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), such as electric vehicles (EVs). Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook revealed that the launch of JPJePlate is part of a dual-focused approach to both incentivize the adoption of ZEVs and EVs and advance digitization initiatives.
Loke emphasized that the JPJePlate initiative underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing digitization, improving road safety, and evolving the Vehicle Identification System (VIS). This new system will be implemented for all new ZEVs, including newly registered electric vehicles.
The JPJePlate introduces new standards for road safety and efficiency, offering several key advantages:
- Enhanced Visibility: With retro-reflective properties, JPJePlate improves visibility at night, helping to reduce accidents and boost driving safety. This feature also aids in enforcement efforts.
- Security Features: The plate includes an anti-cloning hologram to deter theft and fraud, and it helps easily identify electric vehicles, ensuring that appropriate safety measures are taken during emergencies.
- Smart Technology and Enforcement: JPJePlate incorporates RFID technology through the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), fostering a more connected and sophisticated transport network.
In addition, the JPJePlate features a white background with white lettering and a green stripe to indicate electric vehicles, along with the Malaysian flag. While current ZEV owners are not required to switch to the JPJePlate, they can purchase a set for RM98 starting in November.
“This price includes the front and rear plates, a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) mirror sticker, and standard delivery. Our primary focus is to ensure a seamless rollout of JPJePlate for new ZEVs. The Ministry of Transport invites public feedback on this initiative,” he added.
