2024 Citroën Basalt Set to Arrive in Malaysia – First Compact C3-Based Coupe SUV Model Confirmed
Citroën’s return to Malaysia has been anticipated for a while, following their appearance at the Malaysia Autoshow. Stellantis Malaysia plans to position Citroën as a mass-market brand, complementing the “upper mainstream” Peugeot lineup. While there were no new models specifically announced for Malaysia at the time (though the C3 Aircross was previously showcased), it has now been confirmed that the new Basalt will be introduced here.
Stellantis Malaysia’s managing director, Jamie Francis Morais, shared the news on LinkedIn that the Basalt will soon arrive in Malaysia. The Basalt is a coupe variant of the C3 and C3 Aircross, featuring a similar front design but with a distinctively styled, sloping rear end inspired by the Basalt Vision concept.
The Basalt stands out with its distinctive design, blending the practicality of a compact SUV with the sleek lines of a coupe. It features a forward-looking front end shared with the C3 and C3 Aircross, but with a uniquely styled bumper and a more dynamic, sloping rear inspired by the Basalt Vision concept. This combination of elements offers a fresh take on the classic SUV silhouette, combining sporty aesthetics with everyday usability.
Under the hood, the Basalt is expected to come equipped with the same 1.2-liter PureTech three-cylinder engines as the C3. Drivers can anticipate two engine options: a naturally aspirated variant producing 82 PS and 115 Nm of torque, and a turbocharged version delivering 110 PS and 190 Nm. While the Indian market will see these engines paired with a manual transmission, Malaysian buyers are likely to benefit from a more refined driving experience with a six-speed automatic gearbox.
