Jaecoo J5 EV Makes Malaysian Debut – A Pet-Friendly Electric SUV Designed for Modern Lifestyles
Malaysia’s electric vehicle market continues to welcome exciting new contenders, and the latest addition comes from Jaecoo. Making its first public appearance at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026, the all-new Jaecoo J5 EV showcases the brand’s first fully electric SUV for the Malaysian market, combining practicality, technology, and thoughtful features aimed at pet owners and active lifestyles.
Scheduled for local CKD (Completely Knocked Down) production later this year, the J5 EV is expected to play an important role in Jaecoo’s growing electrification strategy in Malaysia.
Built for Everyday Driving with Practical Electric Performance
Replacing the petrol-powered 1.5-litre turbocharged engine is a front-mounted electric motor producing 211 PS (155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque.
Performance figures include:
- 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds
- Top speed of 175 km/h
Power is supplied by a 58.9 kWh CATL LFP battery, giving the Malaysian model a WLTP-rated driving range of up to 402 km. This battery specification differs from some neighbouring ASEAN markets, giving Malaysian buyers a competitive balance between range and efficiency.
Charging capabilities include:
- DC Fast Charging (30-80%) in approximately 28 minutes
- Up to 11 kW AC Charging
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for powering external electrical devices.

A Familiar Design with Exclusive EV Styling
While the overall silhouette remains identical to the petrol-powered J5, the electric version introduces several subtle styling enhancements.
These include:
- Closed-off EV front fascia
- Active grille shutter
- Unique aerodynamic alloy wheels
- BEV badging
- Front charging port integrated into the driver’s side fender

The SUV continues to feature its upright proportions, signature rectangular lighting design, panoramic glass roof and powered tailgate, maintaining the premium styling language that Jaecoo has become known for.
Designed with Pet Owners in Mind
One of the biggest highlights of the Jaecoo J5 EV remains its focus on pet-friendly practicality.
The cabin retains Jaecoo’s specially developed TÜV-certified antibacterial, scratch-resistant and low-VOC upholstery, helping create a cleaner and more durable environment for both owners and their furry companions.
Additional lifestyle-focused features include:
- Pet Mode, allowing the air-conditioning to continue operating while the vehicle remains securely locked.
- Camping Mode for outdoor adventures.
- 35-litre front trunk (frunk).
- 480-litre rear luggage compartment.
- Multiple storage compartments throughout the cabin.

These features position the J5 EV as an attractive option for families, pet owners and weekend travellers alike.
Modern Cabin with Comprehensive Technology
Inside, the Jaecoo J5 EV carries over the minimalist interior layout found in the petrol model while incorporating EV-specific touches such as blue stitching.

Technology highlights include:
- 13.2-inch portrait infotainment display
- Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
- 50W wireless charging pad
- Ventilated power-adjustable front seats
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Double-glazed front windows
- Panoramic glass roof
- 360-degree surround-view camera
Although the instrument display remains relatively simple compared to some competitors, the infotainment system provides access to the vehicle’s various driving and information functions.
Safety Remains a Strong Selling Point
Jaecoo continues to prioritise safety by equipping the J5 EV with a comprehensive package of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Expected safety features include:
- Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB)
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go
- Lane Centring Assist
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Auto Brake
- Door Opening Warning
- Curve Speed Reduction
- Evasive Steering Assist
Combined with six airbags, the J5 EV offers a strong suite of active and passive safety technologies.

Although official pricing has yet to be announced, Jaecoo Malaysia has confirmed that the J5 EV will arrive as a locally assembled model later this year.
With competitive performance, practical driving range, thoughtful pet-friendly innovations and an extensive list of modern features, the Jaecoo J5 EV appears well-positioned to strengthen competition within Malaysia’s rapidly expanding electric SUV segment.
As anticipation builds towards its official launch, the J5 EV is certainly one of the EVs worth keeping an eye on in 2026.
