Denza Z9 GT Confirmed for Malaysia – 965 PS Flagship Shooting Brake Set for 1H 2026 Arrival

BYD Malaysia has officially confirmed that its most ambitious premium model yet, the Denza Z9 GT, is headed to our shores. Slated for a potential Q2 2026 debut, the 5.18-metre-long electric shooting brake will sit at the very top of the Denza hierarchy and based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s not coming quietly.

Previewed locally at multiple showcase events over the past year, the Z9 GT represents a bold statement from Denza, BYD’s premium arm. In a market saturated with SUVs, this sleek, low-slung grand tourer arrives as something refreshingly different and unapologetically dramatic.

A Flagship That Redefines Road Presence

At 5,180 mm long and 1,990 mm wide, with a substantial 3,125 mm wheelbase, the Z9 GT is larger than many established executive wagons. Its proportions alone signal flagship intent.

The styling is the work of renowned designer Wolfgang Egger (formerly of Alfa Romeo, Audi and Lamborghini), and it shows. The front features a split-headlamp layout with a distinctive “mascara-like” lighting signature, while the rear is dominated by a full-width taillight graphic inspired subtly by 1960s American muscle cars.

Riding on striking 20-inch aero wheels, the Z9 GT looks wide, planted and unmistakably premium. If the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is the benchmark, Denza’s contender is playing in the same visual league but with even more road presence.

The e³ Platform: Triple-Motor Power, Supercar Numbers

Underneath, the Z9 GT is built on BYD’s advanced e³ platform and this is where things get seriously impressive.

Fully Electric (Likely Malaysian Spec)

  • Tri-motor AWD setup
    • Front motor: 313 PS / 430 Nm
    • Dual rear motors: 326 PS each
  • Total output: 965 PS (710 kW) & 1,150 Nm
  • 0–100 km/h: 3.4 seconds
  • Battery: 100 kWh Blade LFP
  • Range: 630 km (CLTC)
  • DC fast charging: Up to 270 kW (30–80% in 19 minutes)

For a five-metre luxury tourer, those numbers are nothing short of outrageous.

Plug-in Hybrid (Available Globally)

The PHEV version pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with three electric motors:

  • Total system output: 870 PS & 1,035 Nm
  • 0–100 km/h: 3.6 seconds
  • Pure EV range: 201 km (CLTC)
  • Combined range: 1,100 km
  • Battery: 38.5 kWh Blade LFP

Whether Malaysia receives the BEV alone or both variants remains to be confirmed.

Big Car, Surprisingly Agile

Despite its size, the Z9 GT is engineered to feel far smaller behind the wheel.

  • Up to 15–20 degrees of rear-wheel steering
  • Turning radius as tight as 4.62 metres
  • “Crab walk” and pivot-style turning capability
  • DiSus-C adaptive dampers
  • DiSus-A air suspension (standard on EV), with up to 50 mm height adjustment

Yes this nearly 5.2-metre flagship can slide sideways into parking spaces and rotate in tight spots. It’s the kind of feature that turns a luxury grand tourer into a conversation piece at every valet stand.

Executive Lounge Meets Digital Command Centre

Step inside and the Z9 GT feels every bit the flagship.

The dashboard features:

  • 13.2-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 17.3-inch floating infotainment touchscreen
  • 13.2-inch front passenger display
  • Augmented reality head-up display
  • Generative AI-based voice control

Luxury highlights include:

  • Powered heated & ventilated seats (front and rear)
  • 10-point massage function
  • Heated and cooled storage compartment (plus rear unit)
  • 20-speaker Devialet sound system
  • 50W wireless charging pads
  • Open-pore wood trim & premium leather upholstery

Boot space stands at 488 litres, with an additional 53-litre frunk on the EV. There’s also a 6 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) function, perfect for powering appliances during weekend getaways.

A New Direction for Premium in Malaysia?

With SUVs dominating the local premium landscape, the Denza Z9 GT offers something far more distinctive, a low, elegant, high-performance shooting brake that blends executive luxury with supercar-level output.

For current BYD owners looking to move up the ladder, especially those driving the Seal, this could be the ultimate statement upgrade.

The only remaining question is pricing. But if Denza positions it strategically, the Z9 GT could disrupt the executive EV segment in a way few expected.

Would you choose this over a traditional German executive wagon or is the Malaysian market finally ready for a Chinese flagship grand tourer?
