Proton eMAS 7 PHEV Debuts in Malaysia as the Brand’s Most Accessible Plug-In Hybrid Yet
Proton has officially expanded its electrified lineup with the launch of the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV, marking the national carmaker’s first plug-in hybrid offering under the eMAS sub-brand. Priced from RM109,800 before rebates, the new model enters the market as Malaysia’s most affordable plug-in hybrid SUV, positioning itself as a key contender in the rapidly growing electrified C-segment.
Sharing its Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform with the fully electric eMAS 7 EV, the PHEV variant blends familiar design and interior architecture with a newly introduced hybrid powertrain. The approach reflects Proton’s broader strategy of offering multiple electrification pathways, catering to buyers seeking extended range and refuelling flexibility without committing fully to battery-electric ownership.

The eMAS 7 PHEV is offered in three variants; Prime, Premium and Premium Plus, with prices ranging up to RM129,800. A RM4,000 introductory rebate for the first 5,000 customers further strengthens its value proposition, accompanied by long-term warranties and a comprehensive launch package that includes charging hardware, connectivity services and insurance-related incentives.
Under the bonnet, the eMAS 7 PHEV pairs a high-efficiency 1.5-litre naturally aspirated hybrid engine with a powerful electric motor and an integrated dedicated hybrid transmission. The result is a combined system output of 262 hp and 262 Nm, enabling sub-8.5-second acceleration to 100 km/h across the range. Depending on variant, battery capacity ranges from 18.4 kWh to 29.8 kWh, translating to electric-only driving distances of up to 146 km (WLTP) and a maximum combined driving range of 996 km.

Proton’s emphasis on efficiency extends beyond laboratory figures. During a recent long-distance drive, the eMAS 7 PHEV reportedly covered more than 1,100 km on a single tank, reinforcing its positioning as a long-range, real-world-capable plug-in hybrid suited to Malaysian driving conditions.
Inside, the cabin mirrors the modern, tech-focused layout of the eMAS 7 EV, anchored by a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.4-inch infotainment display running Flyme Auto OS with Bahasa Melayu and English support. Higher variants add features such as a head-up display, premium multi-speaker audio system, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof, placing the eMAS 7 PHEV firmly in the upper tier of its segment in terms of equipment.

Safety and driver assistance systems are also a key highlight. All variants come equipped with Level 2 ADAS, while Premium and Premium Plus models receive a broader suite of active safety features, including blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic braking and a front centre airbag.
With its competitive pricing, extensive equipment list and long-distance capability, the Proton eMAS 7 PHEV represents a significant step in the brand’s electrification journey. As Proton accelerates its product rollout in 2026, the eMAS 7 PHEV stands out not just as a new model, but as a strategic bridge between conventional internal combustion and full electric mobility.
