Proton X70 Sport Edition Debuts in Stealthy All-Black Form – Limited to Just 600 Units

In a move that reflects shifting consumer tastes towards bolder and more distinctive styling, Proton has unveiled the Proton X70 Sport Edition, a striking, limited-run variant that injects a darker, more aggressive personality into one of its most important SUVs.

Previewed ahead of its official price announcement on 16 April 2026, the new Sport Edition will be available in just 600 units nationwide, making it one of the most exclusive iterations of the X70 to date.

A Stealth-Inspired Exterior That Stands Apart

The headline feature is its Quartz Black finish, a colour that has quickly become a signature shade across Proton’s newer models. Unlike the standard X70 range, which omits black entirely, this exclusive paint choice immediately sets the Sport Edition apart.

Enhancing the stealth theme are:

  • Blacked-out 19-inch alloy wheels
  • A bespoke bodykit (front splitter, side skirts, rear spats)
  • Subtle yet sporty red accent detailing along the lower body

The result is an SUV that looks noticeably more planted, purposeful, and performance-inspired even while standing still.

Sporty Interior With Premium Touches

Step inside, and the theme continues with a cabin that blends sportiness and comfort seamlessly.

Key highlights include:

  • Black leather upholstery with red contrast stitching
  • Sport Edition embroidery on front seats
  • Nappa leather steering wheel
  • 72-colour ambient lighting system
  • Powered seats with lumbar support

While not a performance-focused upgrade, these enhancements elevate the overall ownership experience, giving drivers a stronger sense of exclusivity.

Proven Performance, Now With More Refinement

Under the hood, the Sport Edition remains mechanically unchanged which is no bad thing.

It continues to be powered by a:

  • 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine
  • 181 hp and 290 Nm of torque
  • 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT)

This refined powertrain, introduced in the latest MC3 update, replaced the earlier three-cylinder unit and offers smoother performance, improved NVH levels, and better overall drivability, key traits that have helped maintain the X70’s popularity in Malaysia.

Built on a Strong Legacy

Since its debut in 2018, the Proton X70 has played a pivotal role in reshaping public perception of the brand. Developed in collaboration with Geely, it marked a turning point for Proton in terms of quality, technology, and global competitiveness.

The introduction of the Sport Edition is less about reinvention, and more about evolution, catering to a growing segment of buyers who want their SUV to make a stronger visual statement.

Limited Units, Growing Demand

With only 600 units available, the Proton X70 Sport Edition is clearly targeted at buyers seeking rarity combined with everyday usability.

While official pricing will only be revealed on 16 April, expectations point towards a slight premium over the Premium variant it is based on likely justified by the additional styling package and exclusivity factor.

Should You Be Interested?

If you’re in the market for a C-segment SUV that balances practicality with standout design, the X70 Sport Edition presents a compelling proposition.

It may not be faster or more powerful, but in terms of presence, identity, and exclusivity, this is arguably the most distinctive X70 yet.
