Jaecoo J5 launched in Malaysia – Pet-friendly B-SUV with 1.5T power, priced from RM108,000 (RM102k with promo)

The Malaysian B-segment SUV space just got even more interesting. OMODA | JAECOO Malaysia has officially introduced the Jaecoo J5, positioning it as a compact yet premium-leaning crossover designed for urban lifestyles and surprisingly, for pet lovers too.
Previewed last year, the J5 now enters the market as the most accessible model in the Jaecoo lineup, taking aim squarely at established players like the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V. But unlike its rivals, the J5 arrives with a distinctive twist: a TÜV-certified pet-friendly interior and a feature list that punches above its weight.
Pricing & Launch Promotion
The Jaecoo J5 is offered in a single 2WD variant, priced at RM108,000 (on-the-road, without insurance). Included is a seven-year or 150,000 km vehicle warranty, matching the brand’s standard coverage in Malaysia.
In conjunction with its launch (5–15 March 2026), customers can enjoy an RM8,000 early-bird package, consisting of:
- RM3,000 Duit Raya rebate
- Choice of complimentary first-year insurance or additional RM3,000 rebate
- Accessories trio package worth RM2,000

Opting for the additional rebate effectively lowers the price to RM102,000, placing it extremely close to the X50 Premium while undercutting turbocharged variants of the HR-V by a significant margin.
Exterior – Premium-Inspired Presence
Measuring 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, 1,650 mm tall, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, the J5 sits at the larger end of the B-segment.
Its upright stance, clean surfacing and wraparound glasshouse give it a silhouette reminiscent of a Range Rover-inspired design theme. Slim LED projector headlamps flank a bold “waterfall” grille, while the rear features slim taillights connected by a gloss-black bar.
Standard exterior highlights include:
- 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels (235/55 R18 tyres)
- LED headlights and DRLs
- Powered tailgate
- Panoramic moonroof (1.45 sqm)

Underneath, the J5 rides on MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension, a rare setup in this segment, along with all-round disc brakes. Torsional rigidity is rated at 23,500 Nm per degree, contributing to structural strength and stability.
Powertrain – Turbocharged Efficiency
Powering the J5 is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing:
- 147 PS (108 kW)
- 210 Nm of torque
Unlike some competitors that use dual-clutch gearboxes, the J5 is paired with a CVT transmission, driving the front wheels.

Performance figures:
- 0–100 km/h: 10.2 seconds
- Top speed: 175 km/h
- Fuel consumption: 7.5L/100km (6.4L/100km claimed under Malaysia Driving Cycle)
While it may not be the sportiest offering in the segment, the setup prioritises smoothness and everyday drivability, aligning well with its urban-focused positioning.
Interior – Minimalist, Tech-Focused & Pet-Friendly
Step inside and the J5 delivers a clean, horizontal dashboard layout dominated by a 13.2-inch portrait infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other key cabin highlights include:
- 8-inch LCD instrument cluster
- 50W wireless charging pad with ventilation
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Ventilated front seats
- Eight-speaker audio system
- Acoustic double-glazed front windows
- Multi-colour ambient lighting
- 360/540-degree surround view camera system

Boot space stands at 480 litres, expanding to 1,284 litres with the rear seats folded.
But the true differentiator? Its TÜV-certified antibacterial and scratch-resistant leatherette upholstery, designed with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Jaecoo also offers optional pet accessories such as nets, mats and carriers, making this one of the few SUVs in Malaysia actively marketed as “pet-friendly.”

There’s even a built-in in-car karaoke function, complete with a wireless microphone included in the accessories package.

Safety – Level 2+ ADAS Suite
The J5 comes equipped with a comprehensive Level 2+ ADAS package featuring 19 driver assistance systems, including:
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go
- Lane Centring Assist
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Emergency Lane Keep Assist
- Door Opening Warning
- Traffic Jam Assist
- High Beam Assist
Six airbags and a high-tensile steel structure further reinforce its safety credentials.
Final Thoughts

The Jaecoo J5 enters Malaysia’s competitive B-segment SUV market with a clear strategy: offer premium-inspired design, high feature value, and unique lifestyle positioning at an accessible price point.
At RM102,000 with launch incentives, it sits in a sweet spot between mainstream and premium, and its pet-friendly angle adds a layer of differentiation rarely seen in this category.
The question now is simple:
Is this the smartest new urban SUV choice of 2026, or just another new contender in an already crowded field?
