2026 Nissan Serena e-Power Arrives in Malaysia: Smarter, Smoother and More Sophisticated

Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) is preparing to usher in the sixth-generation Nissan Serena (C28) to the Malaysian market, with local assembly (CKD) scheduled and an official launch expected in the first quarter of 2026. Previewed earlier with only its exterior on display, the curtain has now been lifted on the full specifications of the Serena e-Power – and it is shaping up to be the most technologically advanced Serena ever offered here.

While pricing remains the final missing piece, the combination of Nissan’s unique e-Power hybrid system, a thoroughly modernised cabin and a comprehensive ADAS package positions the C28 Serena as a compelling upgrade over the outgoing C27.

Design evolution: modern, clean and purpose-driven

The C28 Serena adopts a more contemporary design language that prioritises aerodynamics and presence without straying from the MPV’s family-friendly proportions. The updated front fascia, slim lighting elements and boxy silhouette continue to emphasise interior space while projecting a more premium image.

Malaysia will receive the Serena e-Power in a single Premium Highway Star variant, with four exterior colour options available: Diamond Black (monotone), as well as Turquoise Blue, Brilliant White and Dark Metal Grey paired with a contrasting black roof.

A digital-first cabin built for families

Step inside, and the generational leap over the previous model is immediately apparent. The Serena’s dashboard has been completely redesigned around a dual 12.3-inch display layout, comprising a fully digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen running Nissan Connect infotainment. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, ensuring seamless smartphone integration.

Rear passengers are not forgotten either, with a ceiling-mounted 14-inch entertainment monitor providing added comfort for longer journeys. Practicality has also been improved through a reworked centre console that replaces the traditional gear lever with a push-button electronic selector, freeing up space for a larger storage cubby and a wireless charging pad.

Cupholders positioned near the air vents, multiple open storage compartments and USB-C charging ports for all rows underline Nissan’s focus on everyday usability.

Flexible seating with comfort at its core

The Serena retains its practical 2-2-2 seating configuration, offering six individual seats and no fewer than 13 seating and cargo layouts. Nissan’s zero gravity-inspired seats are fitted to both the first and second rows, with ISOFIX anchors available for child seats in the second row.

Access to the third row is made easy via power sliding doors, a dedicated pedal and seat-slide mechanisms, while the 50:50 split-folding third-row seats can be folded or latched to the sides to maximise cargo space. Thoughtful touches such as tray tables for second-row passengers further enhance the Serena’s family-friendly appeal.

e-Power: electric driving without the plug

Under the bonnet, the Serena e-Power uses Nissan’s distinctive hybrid approach. A 1.4-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine produces 98 PS and 123 Nm of torque, but it never drives the wheels directly. Instead, it functions solely as a generator, supplying electricity to a 1.77-kWh lithium-ion battery mounted beneath the floor.

Drive is handled exclusively by an electric motor producing 163 PS and 315 Nm, delivering smooth and immediate acceleration to the front wheels without the need for a conventional transmission. The result is an EV-like driving experience without the need for external charging.

Fuel consumption is rated at 18.5 km/l (NEDC), while drivers can choose between Eco, Standard and Sport modes. For enhanced regenerative braking, B mode and Nissan’s e-Pedal one-pedal driving function are also available.

Nissan’s e-Power system delivers EV-like smoothness, with the petrol engine acting solely as a generator.

Engineering for comfort and reduced motion sickness

Beyond performance, Nissan has invested heavily in ride comfort and passenger well-being. Aerodynamic air curtains at the front bumper help smooth airflow, while newly developed suspension – claimed to be SUV-derived – features a stiffer stabiliser to reduce body roll.

Improved steering rigidity and recalibrated electric power steering reduce the need for constant corrections, while optimised braking control minimises pitch during deceleration. Together with improved NVH insulation and acoustic glass, these measures aim to reduce fatigue and motion sickness, especially on long journeys.

Comprehensive safety and ProPILOT as standard

Safety is a major highlight of the Serena e-Power. The MPV comes standard with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, high beam assist and an around view monitor.

Nissan’s ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving system is also included, combining adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist and blind spot intervention to reduce driver workload during highway driving.

Six airbags further reinforce the Serena’s safety credentials, making it a strong proposition for family buyers.

Dimensions and ownership assurance

The C28 Serena measures 4,765 mm long, 1,715 mm wide and 1,870 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,870 mm, offering generous interior space despite a slightly more compact footprint than its predecessor.

ETCM backs the Serena e-Power with a five-year, 100,000 km vehicle warranty, while key e-Power components – including the motor, battery and energy management system – are covered for eight years or 160,000 km, providing added peace of mind.

Final thoughts: a Serena worth waiting for

With its refined e-Power hybrid system, tech-laden interior and strong focus on comfort and safety, the 2026 Nissan Serena e-Power represents a significant step forward for Nissan’s MPV lineup in Malaysia. While pricing will ultimately determine its competitiveness, the specification alone suggests ETCM is positioning the Serena as a premium yet practical family mover.

As the first-quarter 2026 launch approaches, the C28 Serena e-Power is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated MPVs in the market. Will it be your next family car? The full details are worth exploring.
