All-New Proton Saga Secures 4-Star ASEAN NCAP Rating — Here’s What You Need to Know

Fresh off its official debut, the all-new Proton Saga is already making headlines — this time for scoring a commendable 4-star rating under the latest ASEAN NCAP safety assessment. Tested under the 2021–2025 protocol, Malaysia’s beloved “People’s Car” proves that affordability doesn’t require sacrificing safety.
Solid Safety Performance Across the Board
In its crash and safety evaluations, the fourth-generation Saga — tested mainly in the Standard variant — chalked up 66.70 points in total:
- Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 23.72 / 32
- Child Occupant Protection (COP): 38.17 / 51
- Safety Assist: 14.00 / 21
- Motorcyclist Safety: 7.00 / 16
ASEAN NCAP reported that the Saga’s front occupant compartment remained stable during frontal offset testing, though the driver dummy registered marginal chest protection in both frontal and side impacts.

Better Confidence for Parents on the Road
For families, the Saga’s 38.17-point COP score reflects adequate protection. Impressively, 24 of 28 child restraint system tests met assessment requirements. Rearward-facing CRS performed best, scoring 12 points, followed by 7.283 points for forward-facing setups.

Safety Features — Standard vs Premium Variant
Standard across all variants:
- 2 airbags
- ESC & ABS
- Front seatbelt reminders
- ISOFIX mounts
The Premium variant, however, steps up with ADAS, including:
- AEB
- BSD
- Door Opening Warning
- Auto High Beam
- Lane Departure Warning
- Collision warnings (Front & Rear)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Lane Change Assist
With these upgrades, the Saga earned 14 points in Safety Assist — in line with ASEAN NCAP expectations.
Focused on Motorcyclist Safety
ASEAN NCAP’s current protocol highlights motorcycle-related safety due to regional traffic conditions. The new Saga achieved 7 out of 16 points, with features like AEB and BSD performing effectively.
Proton also revealed that the Saga is the first national model to complete ASEAN NCAP’s motorcycle ADAS test — a notable achievement.
