Sarawak Advances Clean Mobility: Hydrogen Refuelling Facility at Petros Station in Batu Kawa Begins Testing

Batu Kawa, Sarawak – In a significant step towards sustainable transportation, Sarawak has commenced testing of its hydrogen refuelling facility at the Petros Multifuel Station in Batu Kawa. This move reinforces the state’s commitment to advancing clean energy technologies and establishing itself as a leader in green mobility within the region.

The facility, developed under the state government’s hydrogen initiative, is designed to support a new wave of hydrogen-powered vehicles. Once fully operational, it will provide clean hydrogen fuel to support both public and private transport, including buses, fleet vehicles, and potentially, consumer vehicles in the future.

This marks one of Malaysia’s few operational hydrogen refuelling infrastructures and the first of its kind in Sarawak under the Petros brand, Sarawak’s state-owned oil and gas company. It forms part of a broader plan by Sarawak to integrate green energy solutions across its infrastructure, helping reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.

The testing phase will evaluate safety systems, fuel dispensing efficiency, and infrastructure reliability. If successful, it could pave the way for additional stations across the state, enabling wider adoption of hydrogen vehicles.

Sarawak has already taken the lead in hydrogen transportation with the rollout of hydrogen-powered buses in Kuching, and this facility further strengthens its foundation in alternative fuel development.

The Petros Multifuel Station also offers traditional fuels and EV charging, reflecting the state’s vision of a future-ready, integrated refuelling ecosystem that supports multiple forms of low-emission transport.

With growing interest in hydrogen as a clean alternative fuel, Sarawak’s proactive investments place it at the forefront of Malaysia’s push toward a greener future.
