smart #5 Makes Malaysian Debut: A Bold Step Into the Future of Premium EV SUVs

Kuala Lumpur, August 2025 – After the arrival of the smart #1 and #3, Malaysia is now set to welcome the largest and most powerful member of the smart EV family — the smart #5. First revealed globally last year and displayed at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025, the SUV has now been officially previewed in Malaysia, setting the stage for what could be the brand’s most ambitious launch yet.

A Flagship Built to Impress

Riding on Geely’s advanced SEA3/PMA2+ platform, the smart #5 positions itself as a rugged yet tech-packed contender in the EV space. Measuring 4,705 mm in length with a commanding stance, the SUV blends muscular, boxy proportions with futuristic lighting signatures that make it instantly recognisable. In a market filled with sleek crossovers, the #5 dares to look different — bold shoulders, slab-sided styling, and even playful panda “easter eggs” hidden on its glass panels.

Three Flavours of Performance

The smart #5 will arrive in Malaysia in three variants:

  • Pro: A rear-wheel drive entry model with 340 PS and up to 465 km range.
  • Premium: An 800V RWD powerhouse with 590 km WLTP range and blistering 400 kW DC fast-charging, capable of topping up from 10-80% in just 15 minutes.
  • Brabus: The headline act with dual motors, a thundering 646 PS, and 0–100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds, making it the most powerful smart ever offered here.

With a 100 kWh battery in its higher trims, the #5 becomes smart’s longest-range EV yet, eclipsing the #1 and #3 while taking aim at rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7X, BYD Sealion 7, and Xpeng G6.

A Cabin Like No Other

Inside, the #5 trades minimalism for character. Its funky oblong design theme runs across pedals, air vents, and even seat headrests, while premium materials like Nappa leather (Premium) or Dinamica microfibre (Brabus) elevate the ambience. A panoramic glass roof, frameless doors, and real oak trim (or faux carbon-fibre in Brabus) add to the sense of occasion.

Tech lovers will find plenty to smile about: dual 13-inch AMOLED touchscreens, a 25.6-inch AR head-up display, ChatGPT integration, and a 2,000-watt Sennheiser 20-speaker system with Dolby Atmos. Even the ambient lighting syncs with music, creating a mini concert hall on wheels.

Practicality hasn’t been forgotten either, with 630 litres of boot space, a usable frunk, and rear seats that fold to reveal a flat load floor capable of fitting a 2.7-metre mattress — a true nod to adventure-ready buyers.

Raising the Bar for Smart in Malaysia

Safety and driving assistance tech get a major boost with higher-resolution cameras, Nvidia Drive OrinX chips, and advanced ADAS functions including highway assist, fully autonomous parking, and upgraded collision prevention systems.

For Malaysia, the #5 is expected to launch at a price above the #3’s RM175k entry point, likely positioning it close to the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X. With its rugged style, record-breaking specs, and premium tech, the #5 could very well redefine what Malaysian buyers expect from a smart SUV.

The Road Ahead

More than just another EV, the smart #5 represents a shift in the brand’s identity — from compact urban runabouts to a full-fledged premium SUV player. With its mix of performance, range, technology, and personality, the #5 signals that smart is no longer just “cute and quirky” — it’s serious about leading the EV race.
