Jaecoo J8 Set for Malaysian Launch on July 18: Two Variants from RM195k

Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has officially confirmed the launch date for the highly anticipated Jaecoo J8 SUV, scheduled to debut on July 18, 2025. This marks Jaecoo’s entry into Malaysia’s competitive D-segment SUV market, with two distinct variants set to appeal to different buyer preferences.

Two Variants for Malaysian Buyers

Buyers can expect the Jaecoo J8 to arrive in two configurations:

  • J8 2WD Five-Seater – Estimated from RM195,000
  • J8 AWD Six-Seater – Estimated around RM220,000

While the 2WD variant offers a conventional five-seat layout, the higher-spec AWD version introduces a three-row 2-2-2 seating arrangement, catering to families seeking additional space.

Performance and Powertrain

Under the hood, both models share a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 249 PS and 385 Nm of torque. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, the 2WD model drives the front wheels, while the AWD variant benefits from power to all four wheels.

The AWD variant boasts respectable performance figures, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds, with a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

Premium Features and Technology

The J8 2WD comes equipped with:

  • 12-speaker Sony sound system
  • Six airbags
  • Ambient lighting
  • Faux leather seats

The AWD variant steps up with:

  • 14-speaker Sony audio system (with headrest speakers)
  • 10 airbags
  • Leather upholstery
  • Power-operated doors
  • Fragrance system
  • Ventilated and massaging driver’s seat
  • Automatic parking assist
  • Powered front and second-row seats
  • NFC keyless entry
  • Suede and wood trim interior finish
  • 20-inch alloy wheels
  • Level 2.5 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)

Both variants feature a widescreen digital cockpit, combining dual 12.3-inch displays for instrumentation and infotainment, complemented by a wide centre console and premium interior finishes.

Practicality and Versatility

While the AWD model gains a third row of seats and CDC adaptive suspension, this comes at the expense of cargo space, offering 200 litres compared to the 738 litres available in the 2WD version. However, the AWD variant’s increased wading depth of 450 mm provides additional off-road capability.

Colour Options

Customers will be able to choose from Carbon Crystal Black, Khaki White, and Olive Grey. The AWD model adds a stylish two-tone exterior with a contrasting black roof.

Conclusion

With its blend of upscale features, solid performance, and competitive pricing, the Jaecoo J8 is poised to attract buyers looking for a practical yet premium SUV. Set to compete with rivals like the Kia Sorento and Proton X90, Jaecoo’s official arrival in Malaysia marks a new chapter in the local SUV segment.
